Supporting Hope and New Beginnings: Christian Endeavour Ireland Missionary Project is JENGANA

This year, Irish CE is supporting Jengana, an organisation which has been working for over 15 years, based mainly in the Nairobi area of Kenya. Jengana works with people living in extreme poverty, seeking to alleviate their suffering and bring them hope. They believe that as they help people meet their practical needs, they can also impact their spiritual lives. The name ‘Jengana’ means ‘building each other’ and this is shown through the range of projects Jengana are involved with.

These include a children’s home, providing clean water for communities, sponsoring education programmes, feeding projects in the slums, guest houses, a farm and even a football ministry. Through all the different aspects of their work, Jengana walk alongside people in need and make a real difference in their lives, both today and in the future.

Jengana have put together a Missionary Pack for CE societies to use – this pack gives more information about some of the work they do, and includes a cover letter, a PowerPoint and a range of lessons, puzzles and other activities, as well as prayer points that you can use to help guide your prayerful support of Jengana. These packs have been emailed to CE societies, are also available here.

CE will be focusing on the work Jengana do with children – many children in Kenya are abandoned, abused or neglected as a result of extreme poverty. Jengana run a children’s home, Kipepeo (meaning ‘butterfly’ in Swahili) which provides children with a safe, nurturing home and offers them a chance to recover, feel loved, eat well, attend school and experience the unconditional love of their heavenly Father. At the moment, there are 19 children in Kipepeo home being looked after by Jengana.

Jengana also run a sponsorship programme – all children have to pay to attend school in Kenya, and many families are unable to afford this. Jengana works alongside families and helps to ease the financial burden of education, giving children the opportunity to improve their futures by enabling them to attend school.

As we support Jengana as our Missionary Project for 2024-25, we can pray for the work in Kenya. Any money raised will make a huge impact on their work. If your CE group would like to hear more about the work of Jengana, please contact Hazel Darragh on h.darragh@ymail.com or on 07841 423131. She would be delighted to arrange to come to meet you and share more about Jengana.
